Quad/Graphics Secured $1B in Long-Term Contracts in ’02

Quad/Graphics ended 2002 with $1 billion in new and renewed long-term contracts, the company said yesterday.

Among the publishers and catalogers with whom the printer signed multiyear contracts in 2002: Time Inc., U.S. News & World Report, Rodale Inc., Coldwater Creek, Smithsonian, Meredith Corp., Pottery Barn Kids and Orvis.

“Certainly, 2002 was a year of changes and challenges, but it was also a year of opportunities — and we seized every opportunity to extend relationships with existing customers while extending our services to new ones,” said Thomas A. Quadracci, president/CEO of Quad/Graphics, Pewaukee, WI.

Company founder Harry V. Quadracci died in an accidental drowning near his home last summer, three weeks after a fire destroyed a 10-story automated storage building in Lomira, WI.

Quadracci credited the contracts to the company’s progressive print-production and customer service capabilities. By integrating its capabilities across people, processes and plants, the company said it has significantly expanded production options while decreasing turnaround time.

Quad/Graphics is the world's largest privately held printer of magazines, catalogs and commercial products. It employs 11,000 people in the United States and has annual sales of $1.8 billion.
