Publisher’s Clearing House comes to Twitter

The old guard in direct marketing has met the tech savvy future. In a move to reach a younger generation who may not be familiar with the direct mail contest company, Publisher’s Clearing House has debuted a new promotion live on Twitter.

The way that it works is that Twitter users can sign up to follow the PCH contest for the chance to win prizes at twitter.com/pchwinningways.  To encourage opt-ins, Publisher’s Clearing House is offering a chance to win a $100 gift certificate. The effort includes new prizes and contests with winners announced every month, in a move to get consumers to return to the site and to continue to follow the effort.

The Publisher’s Clearing House Twitter page links to other sites including the brand’s Facebook and MySpace pages, as well as its own gaming sites such as PCHGames.com, PCHLotto.com and PCHSearchandWin.com. There is also an iPhone application for Publisher’s Clearing House.

This comes after the brand, faced some legal troubles in the late ’90s with accusations from a number of US states that it was using deceptive marketing for its sweepstakes.
