PrivacyRight Offers Software for Healthcare Providers

PrivacyRight Inc., a provider of privacy products and services, announced the availability of its TrustFilter for Health Care software that is designed to help healthcare providers comply with new medical privacy rules issued this week by President Clinton.

“One of the most critical [information technology] challenges facing the healthcare industry is the ability to allow patient permissions to follow patient data,” said Paul Sholtz, co-founder and chief technology officer at PrivacyRight, San Mateo, CA, in a statement last week.

As a result of the new medical privacy rules, healthcare professionals must get written consent prior to releasing a patient's medical records as well as inform patients of any use of their records.

Patients also must be given access to their records and be allowed to request changes.

The TrustFilter software, according to PrivacyRight, links patient permission to the personal information contained on the patient within a doctor's or other healthcare provider's records.
