PRC seeks comment for postal monopoly survey

The Postal Regulatory Commission is seeking public comment for its study on universal postal service and postal monopoly in the United States.

In compliance with the Postal Accountability and Enhancement Act of 2006, the commission must complete a report on “universal postal service and the postal monopoly in the US, including the monopoly on the delivery of mail and on access to mailboxes.” This report needs to be submitted to the President and Congress by December 19, 2008.

Once this notice is published in the Federal Register, initial comments will be due in 60 days and reply comments will be due in 90 days. All comments will be posted to the commission’s Web site, http://www.prc.gov/.

The commission also plans to hold public hearings in order to solicit comments from the public on May 21 in Flagstaff, AZ; on June 5 in St. Paul, MN and on June 19 in Portsmouth, NH.
