Outpost.com Slashes Free Delivery of Small Orders

Cyberian Outpost Inc., Kent, CT, has scaled back its free overnight delivery offer in an attempt to improve profit margins on orders taken at its computers/electronics retail site, www.outpost.com.

Cyberian modified free delivery to only orders over $100. The firm's 5-year-old Web site had offered free shipping for all orders since spring 1999.

Average order sizes fell significantly during December and January at the site and the company is looking to cut fulfillment costs as it works toward profitability, according to the company.

The company also cited rising fuel surcharges and falling advertising revenue as profit hurdles that caused it to cut back on free shipping services.
