Omaha DMer accused of online child enticement, sexual assault

The president of an Omaha, NE, direct marketing agency was arrested on sexual assault charges Jan. 19.

The Nebraska State Patrol arrested Scott Lortz at his Lortz Direct Marketing office, and he was charged with one count of online child enticement and multiple counts of sexual assault on a child, said Deb Collins, a spokeswoman for the Nebraska State Patrol.

“Lortz Direct Marketing Inc. continues to serve clients under the leadership of company founder Gary Lortz,” the company said in a statement faxed Jan. 23 to DM News. “Scott Lortz is no longer with the company, and his personal situation is not related nor does it [sic] effect the company operations. Lortz’ associates continue their commitment to successfully serving clients.”

Gary Lortz is the father of Scott Lortz, according to KETV.com, the Web site for an Omaha-area news station.

Scott Lortz was being held in the Douglas County Department of Corrections in Omaha without bond. Bail was set for $110,000 at his arraignment Jan. 23, KETV.com reported. Calls to Douglas County Attorney Don Kleine were not returned Jan. 23.

Ms. Collins said the case is centered in New Jersey and that the assault charges were filed in New Jersey. The enticement charge was filed in Nebraska, KETV.com said.

The Nebraska State Patrol was contacted Jan. 17 by authorities in New Jersey after a 16-year-old boy reported a case of online enticement and alleged that communications with the adult had been taking place for about two years.

New Jersey’s regional Internet Crimes Against Children task force and the Nebraska ICAC task force worked with the East Windsor, NJ, Township police department and the Mercer County (NJ) Sheriff’s office, Ms. Collins said.

Scott Lortz is due in court Feb. 23 for an extradition hearing, KETV.com reported.
