Ohio A.G. Sues Firefighter Charity

The office of Ohio attorney general Jim Petro has sued the Association of Disabled Firefighters in a civil complaint alleging that the organization made false claims in its solicitations via telemarketing and printed material.

The charity failed to provide documentation requested by the attorney general to show that it gave financial assistance to disabled firefighters, their families and burn victims, Petro's office said. Its solicitations promised that money donated would go toward paying mortgages and medical bills of families of disabled firefighters, as well as support burn camps and burn trauma centers.

The civil complaint arose from an Ohio attorney general's office investigation into The Campaign Center Inc., a professional fundraiser employed by the Association of Disabled Firefighters.
