OfficeMax Inc., Cleveland, said yesterday that its same-store sales on a year-over-year basis increased to the positive mid-single-digit range in the first six weeks of the current quarter that encompasses most of its back-to-school selling season.
Results are in line with previous guidance and better than the positive 3.4 percent the company recorded for its most recent quarter that ended in July.
Michael Feuer, OfficeMax chairman/CEO, said in a statement that the company remains on track to achieve profitability in the current third quarter and for the full year and anticipates improved gross margins as a result of “relatively rational retail pricing” and the company's fixed cost leverage.
