Nordstrom Seeks to Expand Fulfillment, Call Centers

Nordstrom Inc. announced Aug. 29 plans to expand its fulfillment and contact centers in Cedar Rapids, IA.

Scheduled for completion in spring 2008, the expansion will coincide with the Seattle-based department store chain’s update of its direct business inventory systems. That project will tie the direct business inventory system in with the store system, creating a single view of inventory across channels and providing a more seamless shopping experience for customers online at www.nordstrom.com, in-store or by phone.

Pending local approvals, Nordstrom plans a multimillion-dollar expansion to almost double the current square footage of its Cedar Rapids facility, adding 258,000 square feet to the current 320,000. The expansion will create room for 500 additional jobs in both the fulfillment and contact centers. This marks the second expansion for the company at this location since opening in 1997.
