Internet-based credit card company NextCard Inc., San Francisco, filed suit yesterday against Providian Financial Corp., accusing the firm of copyright infringement, trademark infringement, false advertising and unfair business practices. NextCard said credit card issuer Providian, San Francisco, tried to trick Net surfers into clicking through to the Providian Web site instead of the NextCard site by copying a NextCard banner advertisement. Officials at Providian were not immediately available for comment.
