NBC Bay Area debuts mobile traffic application

NBC Bay Area has launched a new mobile service for drivers called the NBC Bay Area Traffic Cam. The application lets Bay Area commuters access live traffic video feeds on their mobile phones.

The cameras are operated by the California Department of Transportation (Caltrans), and the mobile service is operated by 3rd Dimension Inc.’s Mobileyes platform. The service, which is advertising supported, is compatible with data-enabled phones on the Sprint, Verizon Wireless, AT&T and T-Mobile networks and can be accessed on smartphones including the iPhone, BlackBerry, Palm and Motorola Q.

In addition to the Bay Area, users also can access cameras in surrounding ski and beach areas.

The free service can be downloaded at www.nbcbayarea.com/mobile or www.3Dmobileyes.com, or by calling (877) 622-2291.
