Meredith Shakes Up Publisher Spots

Better Homes and Gardens publisher Amy Wilkins has traded her post at Meredith Corp.'s flagship magazine for a similar title at the company's Country Home publication.

She held the top job at Better Homes and Gardens for a year. Better Homes and Gardens has a reported monthly rate base of 7.6 million versus 1.2 million for Country Home.

Carey Witmer was publisher of Country Home before taking the associate publisher's job at Better Homes and Gardens. She reports to Jan Studin, Wilkins' successor at Better Homes and Gardens, who joined Meredith last summer as publisher of Parents.

“For Amy, it gives her an opportunity to work on a title that has a solid track for growth, and we were glad she was willing to do that because that position had been open,” Meredith spokesman Patrick S. Taylor said.

Studin's replacement at Parents is Susan Baron, previously publishing director of American Baby, a position now eliminated. With a rate base of nearly 2 million, Parents is ripe for a brand extension given Baron's experience.

“One of our goals is to build Parents as a brand,” Taylor said. “It's always been a great magazine, but we'd like to expand it into a branded platform.”
