McAfee.com, Santa Clara, CA, said yesterday it is offering Silhouette-enabled advertising services to its Clinic subscribers. The new service gives online advertisers the ability to deliver targeted, rules-based online advertising to PCs while ensuring consumer privacy. Dell Computer, Crucial Technology, PSN.net, Lotus and Xircom are using the service.
The targeting capabilities of Silhouette are based on hardware and software profiles of the user’s computer that are generated, stored and processed on the user’s PC. The only information transmitted in an advertising campaign is the campaign ID. No information about an individual ever leaves the computer. To learn more about the software, go to www.mcafee.com.
