Martha Stewart Decides to Surrender

Martha Stewart yesterday said she will surrender to authorities within weeks while continuing her appeal of a July conviction on charges related to insider trading of ImClone Systems stock.

Federal judge Miriam Goldman Cederbaum in Manhattan sentenced Stewart to five months in prison and another five months under house arrest.

Stewart, the founder of the lifestyle media and merchandise company Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia Inc., told reporters she wanted to get the matter behind her.

“I must reclaim my good life,” she said during a New York news conference.

The company supported the decision of its former CEO and largest shareholder.

“We look forward to the time when she will be back,” a company statement said.
