Marketsmith promotes insider to GM and EVP

Carina Pologruto has been promoted to GM and EVP of client services at direct marketing agency Marketsmith, said Monica Smith, CEO of Marketsmith. Smith, who previously served as president and CEO, will relinquish her role as president and cede day-to-day client services operations to Pologruto.

Smith said she would no longer serve as president in order allow Pologruto to manage daily client services operations. The changes are part of a “strategic announcement” that Marketsmith will make in the next week. Smith would not be more specific.

Pologruto is the company’s first GM and EVP of client services. She will report directly to Smith and oversee a team of 15 employees.

Pologruto joined Marketsmith in 2006. She most recently served as VP of client services.

She was selected as one of Direct Marketing News’ Thirty Under 30 last year.

Smith said she conducted an extensive internal and external search to fill the position. She ultimately chose to promote Pologruto because, “it was difficult to find someone who really grasped [the nature of our business],” she said. “We are one of the very few multichannel marketers that have such a big footprint in DRTV. We needed somebody who understood that medium.”

In addition to next week’s “strategic announcement,” Smith said Marketsmith will announce several “organizational changes” over the next month that will affect the structure of the Marketsmith team. Although she would not provide more concrete information, Smith said new team members will be added to the organization.

“I’m very proud,” Smith said. “It’s a great time for us.”

Marketsmith clients include MOMA, The Metropolitan Museum of Art and Ralph Lauren.
