Management Buys Mark, Fore & Strike

The Mark Group, a direct marketer of women's apparel, will sell its Mark, Fore & Strike division to an investment group led by the company's senior vice president, Larry Autrey, the company said last week.

Financial details of the sale were not disclosed. The Mark Group said it would “maintain an ownership position in the new company.”

In a statement, Autrey said he hoped to expand Mark, Fore & Strike's store presence in New England and Florida and establish an Internet presence. The fine clothing and accessories retailer positions its stores in upscale resort locations, including Delray Beach, Naples, Sarasota, Stuart and Venice, FL; Osterville, MA; East Hampton, NY; Bay Head, NJ; Newport, RI; and Mystic, CT.

The Mark Group will focus on its Boston Proper brand, which targets “busy, contemporary, affluent women ages 35 to 55.” The company will seek to build Boston Proper into a national brand in the next few years, accelerate the growth of its catalog and retail channels and develop Boston Proper retail stores.

In addition to Boston Proper, The Mark Group owns Charles Keath, a gift and hard goods direct retailer.
