LiLo? Nah. Our Page Six: Get a load of the Caples creatives

Seen at the Caples judging, Courageous Creative Summit & Reveal at 82Mercer in NYC December 5-7:

Patrick Collister, editor of creative showcase Directory graciously lugged boxes of his super-classy mag on an airplane all the way to NYC from the U.K. to distribute to the Caples judges with help from fellow Brit Duncan Gray of United Agency, who sits on the Caples Creative Committee with creative director and copywriter Mat Zucker, who founded The Hindsight Project, an online video initiative for creative professionals, which was just sold to the Art Directors Club, where this year’s Irving Wunderman Award winner Rob Rasmussen has a spot on the Board of Directors.

Sitting on black canvas director chairs on stage at 82Mercer surrounded by exposed brick walls and big bay windows overlooking the Soho cobblestones, Caples judging chair Gary Scheiner of Rosetta led a chat about which campaigns made the Caples Courageous Client short list this year—we’ll put you out of your misery: Leo Burnett took home the award for BYO Cup Day (client: 7-Eleven)—while Proximity Cincinnati‘s Troy Hitch explained why courageous work can’t happen without courageous clients (thank you Volkswagen Group China and “The People’s Car Project”); Google‘s head of agency business development, Torrence Boone—and guilty pleasure lover of Step Up 3—got into the finer points of agile creativity, and students from NYU and the Miami Ad School had their portfolios reviewed by top direct marketers like Caples committee member Patrick Fultz of the DM Creative Group and veteran Caples judge Suzanne Darmory.

The lights were dimmed at 6 p.m. and all was revealed, including Best in Show winner TBWA/RAAD for its super-interactive VIP Fridge Magnet (client: Red Tomato Pizza) and Out-of-Home Gold winner pigskin tattoo poster advertising”—a “flyer” tattooed onto a real piece of pigskin—created by Swiss agency Agentur am Flughafen, whose creative director René Eugster was seen wearing a fantastic black sequined blazer and chatting with co-Caples judge Lotus Child of G2 USA

But enough gossip. It’s really all about the work. Speaking of, check out the 2012 winners. If you like great creative work, I suggest making a cup of coffee and getting comfy. You’re in for a treat. And see the Caples Facebook page for full-on Summit/Reveal photo gallery action.
