Landmark acquires Digital Envoy

Media company Landmark Communications Inc. has acquired Digital Envoy Inc., a developer of online-marketing tools and identity theft-prevention services.

Atlanta-based Digital Envoy is the parent company of Digital Element and Digital Resolve. Digital Element provides IP-intelligence services for a variety of media and Internet applications. Web publishers, search engines, advertisers and analytics firms use Digital Element’s IP intelligence and geo-location services to tailor content to Web visitors.

Landmark Communications is a privately held media company with interests in newspapers, broadcasting, cable programming, print and online classified marketplaces, broadband services, interactive marketing, Internet-video distribution and other businesses.

Based in Norfolk, VA, Landmark owns The Weather Channel; Weather.com; hundreds of local and national print, broadcasting and online businesses; WSI Corporation, a provider of weather presentation systems and data; CBS-TV affiliates NewsChannel 5 Network in Nashville and KLAS-TV in Las Vegas; and Dominion Enterprises, an operator of vertical-classified marketplaces.

The acquisition continues Landmark’s strategy of acquiring Internet-services providers and online-marketing-services providers with growth opportunities. Michael Alston, president of Landmark Interactive, a division of Landmark Communications, believes that Digital Envoy, through its Digital Element and Digital Resolve business units, is positioned to build on its core technologies.

Bill Calpin, president/CEO of Digital Envoy, will continue to lead the company. Co-founders Dennis Maicon, executive vice president of Digital Resolve, and Rob Friedman, executive vice president of Digital Element, will also continue to spearhead the growth of their respective business units.

Landmark Interactive is a division of Landmark Communications, which includes Q Interactive, an interactive direct marketing company; Alliant Cooperative Data Solutions, a cooperative database marketing provider; TotalVid.com, a collection of niche video available by download; and online marketplaces.
