Job Recruiters Join in Online, Offline Venture

Recruitment site Headhunter.net yesterday said it teamed up with The Layoff Lounge, which holds networking events around the country for job seekers and employers.

The deal calls for Atlanta-based Headhunter to sponsor Layoff’s events and market and promote them on its Web site. In turn, Headhunter will have a presence at the events, which generally draw hundreds of people and access to professionals who have recently lost their jobs.

“In this economy, where you’ve got people being laid off on a pretty regular basis, it certainly makes sense for us to extend the awareness of our site and team up with a company that is doing something similar in the offline world,” said Tammy DeMel, corporate communications manager at Headhunter.

The Layoff events bring together professionals, potential employers and venture capitalists, among others, in loosely formal settings where they can meet with each other, said Jeremy Gocke, founder and vice president of operations and marketing at Layoff, Los Angeles. The agreement with Headhunter lets Layoff tap into Headhunter’s list of corporate partners for potential sponsorship opportunities, he said.

Headhunter, which has more than 1 million registered users, will feature Layoff events through banner ads on its Web site, DeMel said. In addition, Headhunter will notify its members via messages in their “MyStuff” accounts whenever events are in their areas, she said.

DeMel said the companies on working to finalize plans in which Headhunter will conduct targeted e-mail campaigns within its online database to promote Layoff events.
