J. Crew’s Gap Connection Continues With New CEO, President

J. Crew announced two top-level shakeups yesterday involving former Gap executives.

Millard S. Drexler, former CEO of Gap Inc., was appointed chairman/CEO of J.Crew Group Inc., New York. Drexler replaces Ken Pilot, who left Gap four months ago to become CEO of J. Crew. Drexler takes over as chairman from Emily Woods, who will remain on the board of directors.

Drexler joined Gap Inc. as president of the Gap division in 1983 and was named president of Gap Inc. four years later. He became CEO in 1995. He retired from the company last September. Before joining Gap, Drexler was president/CEO at Ann Taylor.

J. Crew also named Jeff Pfeifle president. He had been executive vice president, product and design, at Old Navy, part of Gap Inc.’s retail operations along with Banana Republic. Pfeifle joined Gap Inc. in 1993 as vice president, men's product and design, for Banana Republic, and was named to his current position two years later. Previously, he was director of merchandising for Ralph Lauren.
