J.C. Penney Co., Plano, TX, has named John Irving senior vice president and president of catalog and Internet.
The announcement comes more than two months after Irving resigned as president/CEO of Spiegel Catalog Inc. Irving, 53, left Spiegel Dec. 15. Melissa Payner, 42, replaced him. She had been senior vice president of merchandising and advertising creative at Spiegel, Downers Grove, IL.
At the Direct Marketing Association's 83rd Annual Conference and Exhibition in New Orleans last October, Irving detailed Spiegel's road to recovery during a session with 100 attendees. At the time of his departure, Debbie Koopman, vice president of corporate and investor relations at Spiegel, said Irving was leaving to pursue other interests.
