Internet Ad Revenues Up for 1Q 2000

Internet advertising revenues are nearing the $2 billion mark, according to the Internet Advertising Bureau’s Internet Ad Revenue Report.

The IAB report, which was compiled by PricewaterhouseCoopers, said Internet ad revenues hit $1.9 billion for the first quarter of 2000.

Revenues grew 9.9 percent over the fourth quarter of 1999 and 182 percent over the first quarter of 1999, the report said.

“We have become accustomed to the continued sustained growth of online ad revenues, and the report for the first quarter of 2000 continues that very positive trend,” said Rich LeFurgy, chairman at the IAB.

The categories that led online spending during the first quarter were consumer-related (31 percent), financial services (15 percent), new media (12 percent) and business services (10 percent).
