Insert Media Council Roasts, Toasts 2

NEW YORK — The Direct Marketing Association Insert Media Council honored Guthy-Renker Corp. and Linda Callahan, senior vice president at Leon Henry Inc., at its seventh annual “Roast & Toast” holiday luncheon held here yesterday at the Yale Club.

Guthy-Renker, Santa Monica, CA, this year's corporate recipient, was started as an infomercial production studio by co-CEOs Bill Guthy and Greg Renker. It now offers products to U.S. and international consumers through broadcast television, telemarketing, direct mail and retail channels. It has helped bridge the gap between infomercials and the use of insert media, the council said.

Callahan began her career in insert media in 1976 at Leon Henry, Scarsdale, NY. She served as the company's first registrar and salesperson and steered it into related fields such as print media, co-op mailings, ride-along programs and the placement of inserts in monthly billing statements. A regular speaker at industry events, Callahan has been instrumental in the council's growth and the development of the Insert Media Day conference.

The Insert Media Council selected the honorees based mainly on their expertise, professionalism and ongoing contributions to insert media. Last year, the council honored The Bradford Exchange; Diane Caruso, vice president of insert media, Stanton Direct Marketing Inc.; and Joel Katz, senior account executive, Leon Henry Inc.
