I’m ready for those walls to come down

I was happily surprised to see the article in last Friday’s Wall Street Journal about MySpace announcement that they will let site users take profile data outside the site walls. I have Facebook and MySpace pages and while I might like to join another social network or two, who wants to repeat all the same info and upload all the same photos? And my fiancee was just saying to me the other day that he wished social networks weren’t all like little walled fiefdoms.

Well, it looks like that’s about to change, but what does it mean for direct marketers? Certainly paid ads have had mixed results on Facebook…but will marketers consider it useful for their own purposes to have MySpace users and Facebook users sharing info and interacting? Whether they do or not, certainly consumers will benefit.
