Google recaps the most searched terms of the year in ‘Zeitgeist’ video

At the end of every year, Google puts out a report that recaps what the most popular search terms in the world were that year. Yesterday, it released a video for the report, titled “Google Zeitgeist 2013” which illustrates what the world was talking about this year.

Not surprisingly, the top searched term was Nelson Mandela, after the South African icon’s death in the latter half of the year. Other popular searches included Paul Walker, the Royal Baby and Cory Monteith. In terms of products, Apple’s new iPhone 5s topped the rankings with Samsung’s Galaxy S4 coming in just ahead of the Sony Playstation 4 at number 8 and 9 respectively.

For more in-depth analysis, Google has also created a 3D interactive visualization where users can individually click on the city they live in and discover the major search trends that came from there throughout the year.
