General Motors said Wednesday it will offer three new services to connect drivers to their mobile phones and Internet accounts.
This fall, GM will offer a hands-free cell phone service called “Personal Calling” as well as “Virtual Advisor,” which will read e-mails and other information from the Internet like sports scores and stock quotes.
The two systems will work on all GM cars and trucks featuring the OnStar Communication service, which is currently available as an option or a standard feature on 30 GM vehicles sold in the United States.
The company will also offer an advanced Infotainment system on its 2001 Cadillac Seville and DeVille luxury models. The system will integrate a color screen navigation system with radio, CD-ROM, e-mail access and voice memo recorder.
For safety reasons, drivers will be able to read e-mail only when the vehicle is parked.
The service uses the nationwide network created by Verizon, a wireless company recently created by Bell Atlantic and Vodafone.
