Gilt Groupe names Zucker chief marketer

Luxury e-commerce retailer Gilt Groupe has promoted former Dell marketer David Zucker to CMO.

Zucker, who will report directly to CEO Kevin Ryan, replaces Carl Sparks, who was promoted to president. Zucker joined Gilt in November 2009 as VP of customer marketing, handling CRM, analytics and research.

Zucker was previously global director for CRM and implementation at Dell, where he managed CRM for the b-to-c and small business segments. Prior to that, he worked at the Home Shopping Network, Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia and Priceline.com

“Personalization of the customer experience will become increasingly important, and I am confident that [Zucker] will continue to be instrumental in helping to drive the business forward,” said Ryan, in a statement.

A Gilt Groupe representative could not be reached for comment on the Zucker appointment.

Gilt has recently made other changes in the executive wing. In September, it announced that the chairman and CEO would switch roles; then CEO Susan Lyne became chairman, and chairman Kevin Ryan assumed the CEO role. Ryan explained at the time that Lyne’s role will enable her to focus on expansion, strategy and partnerships.
