Fundraising Group Gets New Name

The National Society of Fund Raising Executives will change its name to the Association of Fundraising Professionals on Jan. 1.

The change comes after a two-year process that included comments, input and feedback from both internal and external audiences. The NSFRE board approved the name during its meeting July 15, and the new name and logo were formally unveiled during NSFRE's delegate assembly meetings Oct. 21-22.

“The Association of Fundraising Professionals more accurately reflects our changing demographics and who we are,” said Paulette Maehara, president/CEO of NSFRE. “We wanted a name that was shorter, clearer and more inclusive of all individuals involved in the fundraising process, especially because fundraising has become such an emerging and growing profession.”

The name change reflects a new strategic plan that relies on technology to reach, educate and train more people worldwide. The organization also will expand member services based on organizational issues, specialty, interest and experience.

“NSFRE is gearing up to be the policy and advocacy convener for the philanthropic sector,” said Steve Batson, chair of the organization's strategic planning committee. “The fact that we are the largest umbrella organization in the world for those interested in fundraising activities puts us in a unique position to provide this leadership.”
