FTC Begins Complaint Registry for Military Consumers

The Federal Trade Commission initiated a consumer complaint database yesterday serving members of the military, designed to give soldiers and sailors stationed across the globe an easy way to report fraud.

Dubbed “Military Sentinel,” the database is modeled after the FTC's consumer fraud database, Consumer Sentinel. Law enforcement officials working at 550 agencies in the United States, Australia and Canada will use information collected in the Military Sentinel for investigating and prosecuting fraud.

Members of the U.S. Armed Forces can file complaints in the database by visiting consumer.gov/military. Law enforcement members can retrieve information from the database online, and the site has links to FTC Web pages containing information about consumer fraud.
