Former Kable CEO Friedman Dies

Dan Friedman, former board chairman and CEO of Kable News Co., died Feb. 1 of cancer.

Friedman served Kable News Co., a national distributor and subscription fulfillment supplier, from 1974 until retiring in October 2000. He started working for Kable's parent company, AMREP Corp., about 10 years before joining Kable.

Though his final posts at the firm were board chairman and CEO of Kable and senior vice president and director of AMREP, Friedman held other management positions at the company through the years.

Kable released a statement yesterday that said, “Kable News Company has lost a former leader and loyal friend, and we will all deeply miss Dan. Dan embodied Kable and created the cornerstones which exist today, and for his dedication and expertise he will be eternally remembered.”

A service for Friedman was held Feb. 5 in New York. Contributions can be made in his name to The Fund for Blood and Cancer Research Inc., c/o Dr. Morton Coleman, 407 E. 70th St., New York, NY 10021.

His wife, Lynn, and daughter, Jamie, survive him.
