ExactTarget Cofounder, CEO Scott Dorsey Says Goodbye

ExactTarget Cofounder and CEO Scott Dorsey is bidding adieu to the digital marketing platform provider. Scott McCorkle, ExactTarget’s president of technology and strategy, will fill his role, according to an internal memo acquired by the Indianapolis Business Journal—a news outlet based in ExactTarget’s hometown.

Updated: “ExactTarget co-founder and CEO Scott Dorsey has decided this is the right time to transition out of the business. Scott McCorkle, president of Technology and Strategy, will take over as CEO of the Salesforce.com ExactTarget Marketing Cloud,” Salesforce.com confirmed in a statement. “McCorkle has led the technology team at ExactTarget for nearly 9 years and was instrumental in every stage of the company’s growth – from the IPO to Salesforce.com’s acquisition of ExactTarget in 2013.”

The memo stated that Dorsey’s exit will take place this summer, reports the Indianapolis Business Journal, and was distributed to employees Thursday evening.

“As you might imagine, this was an incredibly difficult decision,” Dorsey wrote in the Indianapolis Business Journal’s published memo. “I have loved every minute of the last 14 years—and feel terrific about the future of the business. This is a great time to begin a new chapter—both for our company and for me personally. We have made enormous strides integrating our business with Salesforce over the last year—and Scott McCorkle…is absolutely the best leader on the planet to become our next CEO.”

The past year has been an eventful one for ExactTarget. After being acquired by cloud computing giant Salesforce for $2.5B this past summer, the company launched the Salesforce ExactTarget Marketing Cloud—a  one-stop shop that marries ExactTarget’s digital marketing capabilities with Salesforce’s acquired social offerings, including Buddy Media, Radian6, and Social.com—last September.

Dorsey cofounded ExactTarget in 2000.
