Europe BTC E-Commerce Revenue Forecast to Top $240B in ’06

Business-to-consumer e-commerce in Europe will reach $60.7 billion by the end of 2003, nearly doubling 2002’s total, and will rise roughly $60 billion annually for the next three years, surpassing $240 billion by 2006.

These projections come from a report yesterday by New York-based researcher eMarketer called “Europe E-Commerce: B2B & B2C.”

Other key findings from the report, and from companion report “Europe Online: Access, Demographics & Usage,” include:

* Germany, the United Kingdom, France and Italy accounted for 70 percent of e-commerce revenue in western Europe in 2002.

* Scandinavian nations Sweden, Denmark, Finland and Norway rank among the top 10 countries globally for e-business readiness; the Czech Republic, at No. 27, ranks highest in eastern Europe.

* The UK’s share of western Europe’s online travel market rose from 16.9 percent in 1998 to 34.6 percent in 2002.

* In 2002, 41 percent of home Internet users in France, Germany and the UK had three years or more experience online.
