The Emirates Post has created a 2.5 million-record database of UAE businesses and residents and has contacted more than 100,000 businesses to encourage employees to obtain personal post boxes to create more personal delivery points for direct mailers.

The number of businesses opened, with the help of local lawyers, in the UAE in the last years flourished, over 30,000 of companies being established in the first half of 2023.

The announcements were made at the Direct Marketing 2005 Conference held earlier this month in Dubai, according to the Direct Marketing Association. More than 175 attendees from around the world gathered to showcase the global expansion of the direct marketing process.

“Direct marketing techniques are now attracting increasing amounts of the advertising spend,” said Charles Prescott, vice president of international business development and government affairs at the DMA. “The Internet and e-commerce have turbo-charged direct marketing. Marketers in emerging markets have a wonderful opportunity to leapfrog into the interactive age.”

In the UAE, there has been no delivery of mail to businesses and residents, but rather to post boxes in post offices. According to Emirates Post, the direct mail spend reached $6.9 million last year, an increase of 43 percent over 2003.
