DMA Names First International Marketer of the Year

The Direct Marketing Association's International Council said yesterday that it will give its inaugural International Direct Marketing Professional of the Year Award to Walt Terry, senior manager, international new business circulation at the National Geographic Society.

Terry receives the award June 27 during the council's International Day 2005 program at the Harvard Club, New York.

Terry began his career in publishing in 1988 and became business manager for Caribbean Travel and Life Inc., a Washington-area startup where he was responsible for all circulation and direct mail, among other responsibilities.

In his current position, Terry has successfully launched National Geographic's list on the rental market.

The award was created to recognize significant contributions by an individual to the direct marketing process in the international market.

The daylong event features roundtables, case studies and networking opportunities. DMA president/CEO John A. Greco will give the keynote address. Companies presenting during the program include Oracle Corp., Direct International Inc., ARC Worldwide and Oglivy One Worldwide.

The program precedes the DM Days New York Conference & Expo 2005, which runs June 28-30 at Jacob K. Javits Convention Center.

Information and tickets for the event are available by calling 212/790-1500 or on the Web at http://www.the-dma.org/conferences/dmainternationalday.
