DMA Insert Council Honors Three

NEW YORK — The Direct Marketing Association's Insert Media Council honored Madison Direct Marketing co-founders Chris Hulse and Bruce Gold as well as Peter J. Mendelson, senior vice president of direct marketing for Gerber Life Insurance Co., at its eighth annual “Roast & Toast” holiday luncheon here yesterday at the Yale Club.

As president and executive vice president of sales, respectively, Hulse and Gold have been partners since founding Madison Direct Marketing in 1984. The firm offers insert marketing opportunities in its own multi-brand direct mail packages.

Mendelson has been in charge of Gerber's direct-to-consumer business since 1992. Under his management, the insert media channel consistently has represented nearly 40 percent of Gerber Life's annual advertising investment.

The Insert Media Council chose the honorees mainly on their expertise, professionalism and ongoing contributions to insert media. Last year, the council honored Guthy-Renker Corp. and Linda Callahan, senior vice president at Leon Henry Inc.

Council co-chair Jeff Holland said at the event that Insert Media Day 2005 will take place Sept. 14 at the Marriott Marquis Hotel in New York City.

Holland presented an outstanding service award to outgoing co-chair Diane Caruso of Stanton Direct Marketing. He also introduced his new co-chair, Jill Payne, vice president of insert brokerage at Direct Media Inc., Greenwich, CT.
