Direct Focus Buys StairMaster

Direct Focus Inc., marketer of the Bowflex line of home fitness equipment, has bought the assets of StairMaster Sports/Medical for about $25 million cash, the company said yesterday.

StairMaster, which markets a line of steppers, stepmills, treadmills and exercise bikes, made about $70 million in revenue in 2001. Direct Focus said it expected StairMaster to contribute $45 million in revenue during the rest of this year.

StairMaster products will be integrated into Direct Focus' line of home fitness equipment.

In addition to its present offerings of Bowflex, Nautilus and Scwinn brands of fitness equipment, Direct Focus will market the well-known brands StairMaster and Quinton.

Direct Focus, Vancouver, WA, markets its products through DRTV advertising and the Web.
