DHL Says Airborne Integration Is Complete

DHL, Plantation, FL, said this week that it has completed integrating most of the ground and courier operations of the former Airborne Express.

DHL finalized its acquisition of Airborne's ground operations for $1.05 billion last August. Airborne's air operations spun off into a separate company, ABX Air Inc.

DHL customers now have access to more domestic delivery options, including several next-day delivery options, the prepaid ShipReady (formerly FlightReady) service and DHL@home (formerly airborne@home), a business-to-residential delivery service in partnership with the U.S. Postal Service.

DHL also consolidated information technology functions across the Americas into one location, DHL's Americas Information Services Center in Scottsdale, AZ. In addition, U.S.-based freight services have been consolidated into the company's logistics division. DHL transferred all Airborne international air freight and ocean customers to the logistics division.

DHL also opened a site at www.DHL-usa.com. It offers self-service shipping capabilities, added tracking options, more international support features and improved ground service mapping.

Further, customer service functions were combined into a single point of contact at 1-800-CALL DHL.

Reportedly, ABX Air is now flying at an estimated 80 percent of capacity, doing most of its business with parent Airborne and the DHL network.
