*Democrats Stop Using Teamsters-Tainted Telemarketer

Democrats reportedly severed ties this week with a telemarketing company that had connections to the 1996 Teamsters election scandal. The Democratic National Committee used Share Group Inc., Somerville, MA, to solicit donations via telephone despite knowing the company employed Michael Ansara, who was convicted of conspiring with some of the Teamsters to funnel union dues toward election funds in the 1996 race between Ron Carey and James Hoffa Jr. Ansara also previously was the majority owner of the company, which itself was cleared of any wrongdoing in the Teamsters scandal.

At least some of the activities of Share Group were directed toward raising funds for current Democratic presidential candidate Al Gore, according to a published report.

Neither Share Group nor the Democratic National Committee immediately returned phone calls seeking comment.
