Database of Y2K Problems Available

A database that identifies which major U.S. companies are exposed to the Y2K computer dating problems and the extent of the problem for these companies is available from Federal Filings Inc., Washington, a subsidiary of Dow Jones & Co.

The database contains statements from Fortune 500 companies made to the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission regarding Y2K issues. In a number of the statements, the cost for rectifying the problems were included.

The database, which is compiled in Microsoft Access, allows the user to conduct a search by company name or ticker symbol. Other features include Y2K cost estimates, SEC form type, date of filing and the actual full text of what each company has disclosed to the SEC. Companies can get the database through e-mail or on CD-ROM for $499. Federal Filings also can compile similar Y2K databases for other industry groupings, including companies not in the top 500.
