CT Mail-Order Operators Banned From Business

Mail-order house International Direct Inc., Stamford, CT, and an associated business, American Security Products Inc., and their officers have been banned from the mail-order business as a result of a settlement stemming from charges that they violated the Federal Trade Commission's Mail or Telephone Order Merchandise Rule, the FTC reported this week.

According to the FTC, International Direct and American Security Products processed thousands of customer payments, but did not ship merchandise, issue refunds or notify customers of delays. Under the FTC rule, companies that receive orders by phone or mail must ship goods within the time stated in their ads or catalogs, or within 30 days if no time is stated. Companies unable to ship orders must give customers notice and an option to cancel

Banned from the mail-order business are Daniel T. Connolly, Debra A. Connolly, Maier “Mike” Levine and Vivian Levine, the FTC said. None of them were reached for comment because a telephone number returned by information under the listing International Direct, Stamford, CT, has been disconnected.
