Condé Nast Publications Is New Name for Consolidated Magazine Giant

Condé Nast Publications is the new holding company brand name for the various divisions within Advance Publications, one of the world's largest consumer magazine publishers.

The business includes Condé Nast magazines, Fairchild Publications, Golf Digest Publications, Condé Nast Media Group and the Condé Nast Shared Services Centers. The company also is the umbrella for the online-focused CondéNet and the new Condé Nast Business Magazine division.

“We have reached a point in the growth of our business where it makes good sense to operate as one consolidated company,” Charles H. Townsend, president/CEO of New York-based Condé Nast Publications, told staff yesterday in an internal memo made available to the media.

“Operating as one company, Condé Nast Publications will simplify our presence, create further broad-based economies for us and position the company for future growth opportunities,” he said.

Condé Nast publishes titles like Vanity Fair, W, Women's Wear Daily, Glamour, Condé Nast Traveler, Domino, Cargo and Lucky.

In the reorganization, Mary Berner has been named president of the Fairchild division, and Mitch Fox holds the same title at the Golf Digest unit. Fairchild and Golf Digest previously were separate companies, and these two executives will report to Townsend instead of Advance chairman S.I. Newhouse Jr.

Meanwhile, the privately owned publisher expanded its real estate. The company now has four New York offices, a facility in Wilmington, DE, and other editorial and sales offices nationwide.
