Condé Nast is shuttering its Golf for Women glossy.
The July/August issue, on newsstands now, will be the bimonthly’s last. Golf for Women had a rate base of 600,000, according to its online media kit. Condé Nast representatives could not be reached as of press time.
“We came to this decision because we feel the magazine will not support our long-term business objectives,” Charles Townsend, president and CEO of Condé Nast Publications said in a statement. “I would like to thank [editor in chief] Susan Reed and [publisher] Chris McLoughlin and the entire staff for their efforts throughout the years. Golf For Women attracted a loyal readership and we were proud to publish it.”
There has been no word on whether Condé Nast would try to retain Golf for Women’s paid subscribers with offers on sister titles, which include Golf Digest and Golf World. Readers of the women’s magazine have a median household income of $135,357 and are often married and own their own homes.
The decision to close the magazine came shortly after Susan Reed, editor in chief of Golf for Women since 2002, announced that she would be leaving the company. Reed has accepted the editor in chief position at Hearst’s O, The Oprah Magazine.
