Is this a case of the economy or the new administration making its impact felt?
Internet retailer Clothing of the American Mind just sent out an e-mail blast informing recipients that it will be shutting down at the end of March. For those of you who aren’t familiar with it, Clothing of the American Mind is a grassroots apparel and t shirt company promoting social and political change that was founded in 2003. It’s T-shirts have been worn by many celebrities and include slogans such as “Stop Wars” and “I ‘heart’ civil liberties.”
This from the e-mail from Caitlin Blue Founder and Owner, Clothing of the American Mind:
Clothing of the American Mind has had 5 great years bobbing in the moral morass of our previous administration. What was originally a manifestation of outrage at a protest against the start of the second Iraq War turned into a thriving company that walked the talk when we became a fully green business in 2005, only one short year after our inception. We have been thrilled to meet so many people at the countless protests, eco & trade shows, street fairs, registering voters, driving across country in a COTAM RV, in the store and on-line who believed in our mission to responsibly articulate, promote and sponsor progressive democratic values, candidates and causes.
Throughout the past five years, the company raised nearly $100,000 and donated thousands of shirts to those in need.
It isn’t ruling out the possibility of making limited edition t-shirts that can be sold guerilla-style, either online or in person.
