Chico's August Sales Rise 42.6%

Chico's FAS Inc., Fort Myers, FL, reported yesterday that sales in the four weeks ended Aug. 30 rose 42.6 percent to $56.3 million from $39.5 million in the prior year's four-week period ended Aug. 31, 2002.

Comparable-store sales for company-owned stores increased 19.4 percent versus last year.

Also, for the 30 weeks ended Aug. 30, total sales increased 35.2 percent to $398.8 million from $295 million in the prior year's 30-week period ended Aug. 31, 2002. Comparable-store sales for company-owned stores rose 12.2 percent for the 30-week period.

Chico's also announced that Scott A. Edmonds, who has served as president and chief operating officer, has been promoted to president/CEO. Marvin J. Gralnick — who with his wife, Helene B. Gralnick, founded the company and who has served as CEO — will continue as chairman of the board.

Edmonds has been employed by Chico's since September 1993 when he was hired as operations manager. In February 1994, he became vice president-operations. He was promoted to senior vice president-operations effective Jan. 1, 1996, to chief operating officer in February 2000 and to president in September 2001.
