AA.com, the Web site for American Airlines, recently unveiled Web-only rates that will run through June 7 for departures leaving the Austin, TX, and Raleigh-Durham, NC, airports.
Flights from both hubs will go to 10 destinations across the United States and Canada. The deals include $119 round-trip offers from Austin to Chicago and from Raleigh-Durham to Denver.
The deals are part of the airline industry's efforts to cut distribution costs along with consumer ticket prices, said Kate Rice, an analyst at PhoCusWright, a research firm covering travel e-business.
Rice said the Internet allows the airlines to bypass global distribution system charges levied within the industry as well as fees that normally go to travel agents.
