Canadian Club whisky has launched a new print ad campaign embracing its somewhat dated image. The campaign features retro-looking photos shot by Robert Whitman for Energy BBDO Chicago and includes the tag line “Damn Right Your Dad Drank It.”
There are numerous versions of the provocative ads including lines like “Your mom wasn’t your dad’s first,” and “Your dad probably wouldn’t have hung out with you.” It almost seems as if Canadian Club is too cool for today’s consumer. But of course, that’s what CC wants you to think.
Canadian Club’s Web site also has an application in which users can upload pictures of their own fathers to create custom ads to send to friends.
Overall, the ads are funny and they invoke the whole “everything old is new again” mentality. My only qualm with the ads is that I can’t picture “your dad” drinking the “whisky cocktails” CC claims he drank. He’d have it neat.
