Brill Leaves Magazine to Start E-Commerce Site

Steven Brill, founder and editor of Brill’s Content magazine, last week announced he is stepping down as editor in chief in the wake of his announcement of a limited partnership with CBS and other partners, including Primedia, General Electric Co., Ingram Book Group and EBSCO, to create an e-commerce site, Contentville.com, that would sell magazines, books and other Internet content including speeches and archived articles.

With the launch of Content magazine 18 months ago, Brill took on the role of media watchdog, publicly scrutinizing the media and the journalism world’s coverage of news and events. His controversial announcement raised questions of conflict of interest in lieu of his new relationship with the companies his magazine covers.

David Kuhn, editorial director at Contentville.com, becomes editor in chief of both Content and Contentville.com. Brill will remain chairman /CEO at Brill Media Holdings, its parent company.
