AT&T pulls plug on unlimited data plans

MediaPost reported today that AT&T is getting rid of its “Unlimited” data offering, in advance of the new iPhone coming out next week.

According to MediaPost, “The new data plans, which go into effect June 7, will start at $15 a month and are geared to mobile subscribers who don’t consume a lot of data while heavier users will pay $25 a month plus more for each extra gigabyte they use.”

Yikes for marketers who are building out mobile web experiences that are geared towards consumers killing time on the mobile web. Lately marketers have been gung ho about building iPhone apps and branded experiences, many of which can be experienced without a web connection once they are downloaded. Expect more apps!
