AOL Provides Wireless E-Mail Access

America Online yesterday extended its e-mail messaging service to wireless devices.

“Increasingly, e-mail is becoming consumers' preferred way to communicate,” said Barry Schuler, president of AOL Interactive Services.

AOL members can now access e-mails sent to their AOL accounts from their text-enabled digital cell phones or pagers. The AOL Mail Alerts service is free to members using versions of AOL 4.0 or above.

The service is part of the company's initiative, dubbed AOL Anywhere, designed to get consumers to use AOL services on devices beyond the personal computer.
