Amazon.com, FedEx to Upgrade Shipping for 'Harry Potter' Buyers

In preparation for the U.S. launch next month of children's book “Harry Potter IV,” Amazon.com and FedEx Corp. have teamed up to offer what they are billing as the largest e-commerce distribution event ever.

For the first 250,000 people who order the book from Amazon, the e-tailer will upgrade the standard delivery service to FedEx Home Delivery or FedEx Express Services on Saturday, July 8, the day the book is available in the United States.

“Harry Potter IV,” the fourth in a series penned by British novelist J.K. Rowling, is Amazon's largest pre-order for a book, with more than 169,000 orders as of yesterday. This number is more than three times the number of advance orders for the third Harry Potter book, “Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban.”
